"It was the 2nd successive quarter for OnePlus to capture the 2nd position in the premium phone segment, surpassing Samsung," it told adding that Samsung had eight per cent share in the December 2017 quarter.Apple's iPhone X was the leading model in the premium segment, capturing 1 5th of shipments, followed with the OnePlus 5T and Samsung Note 8, Counterpoint said. "Going forward, we expect the premium segment to still to grow with further than twenty per cent, both in terms of volume and price in 2018, as further brands are likely to get in the segment," the report said.These involve OPPO, Vivo and Huawei phone , that have some of their better selling models in China endeed in this segment, it added.

OnePlus was the fastest growing brand (with over 343 per cent growth) in the segment capturing 25 per cent market share during Q4 2017 and 19 per cent for 2017. Other notable brands that expanded their presence in the premium segment involved Google, Xiaomi, LG and Nokia phone HMD.
