IDC Q4 2017 stats review Apple passing Samsung in worldwide phone market
IDC starts off with noting "a slower than Guessed 2017 holiday quarter locked out the year bringing minimal change to the worldwide phone market the time compared to 2016." For the complete year, IDC's preliminary information shows which the "worldwide phone market saw a total of 1.472 bn units shipped, declining less than 1% from the 1.473 bn units shipped in 2016. Apple finished 2nd for the complete year in 2017 shipping 215.8 mn units, up 0.2% from the 215.4 mn units shipped in 2016." Samsung"Samsung remembered the overall leader in the worldwide phone market for 2017 in spite of losing out to Apple in the 4th quarter. The Korean giant shipped 74.1 mn units in 4Q17, drop 4.4% compared to the 77.5 mn units from final year.
