China's Huawei eyes smartphone summit after passing Apple

As it stated in Huawei took second place from Apple in a tightening global smartphone market during the second quarter, according to figures released Tuesday by tech-industry trackers International Data Corporation (IDC). IDC said 342 million smartphones were shipped during the second quarter, down 1.8 percent from the same period of 2017 and the third consecutive quarter of year-over-year declines. Frozen out of the US phone market, Huawei has made inroads worldwide largely by shipping high volumes of its cheaper handsets in Europe, Africa and Asia. Huawei eyes top smartphone spot by end-2019

As it stated in Huawei, which overtook Apple as the world's second-largest smartphone vendor in Q2, set its sights on being the top player by the end of 2019. The China-based device maker is targeting shipments of 200 million smartphones this year, a 31 per cent increase from 2017 (153 million). Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei's consumer business group (pictured), said at a press conference it is was possible it could become the largest smartphone vendor by Q4 2019, Reuters reported. Huawei said it shipped more than 95 million smartphones in the first half of 2018. Huawei provided a breakdown of smartphone sales for the first half of the year, with shipments of its high-end P20 series surpassing 9 million units.
