Samsung unveils the Galaxy A9, first smartphone with quad rear camera

Samsung revealed its latest smartphone, the Galaxy A9, featuring the world's first rear camera with four lenses. The company Thursday said its latest phone will come with 128 gigabytes of storage and up to 512 gigabytes of expandable memory. The phone also features its Bixby virtual assistant, payment service Samsung Pay and fitness tracker Samsung Health. "Building on our legacy in smartphone camera development we're introducing next-generation technology across our entire Galaxy portfolio to give more consumers the opportunity to experience cutting-edge innovation." Many watchers of the company were also anticipating the unveiling of its quad camera.


OnePlus hopes to launch the first 5G-capable smartphone next year

Somewhat unsurprisingly, at the Qualcomm 4G/5G summit in Hong Kong, OnePlus officially announced the intention to be one of the first to market with a 5G smartphone. OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei also confirmed that the company has been working on 5G projects since 2016, but enlisted the support of Qualcomm in 2017. That is paving the way for a 5G enabled smartphone in the coming years. Whilst we don't expect the upcoming OnePlus 6T to feature the new wireless standard, it is definitely a teaser as to what might become a key selling point for the next device, potentially the OnePlus 7, although it is still very early to speculate which future OnePlus smartphone will bring 5G compatibility. Earlier this year, Carl Pei mentioned that the company was aiming for a 2019 launch.

Ahead of the company's impending UK launch, Xiaomi has broken new ground with the first 10GB RAM smartphone in China. The Mi MIX 3 was unveiled yesterday and features the novel camera slider Xiaomi has used before, which reveals the front-facing camera, therefore doing away with the need for a cutout or "Notch". A magnetic mechanism is activated in response to screen pressure, revealing the camera and sensors. Xiaomi also unveiled another 10GB device, the Helo "Black Shark", which is aimed at high-performance gaming and augmented reality niches and features dual-liquid cooling and software to keep the device frosty during Pokémon Go sessions. Helo is another example of Xiaomi's brand-within-a-brand model, with the parent acting as a kind of incubator.
