Asus is bringing its ridiculous RoG gaming smartphone to Blighty

PC MAKER Asus has announced that it's bringing its somewhat ridiculous RoG gaming smartphone to the UK. While the firm's Republic of Games sub-brand is more commonly associated with powerful laptops, graphics cards, displays and motherboards, it's now taking a stab at the smartphone market with the imaginatively-named RoG Phone. There's also a TwinView Dock accessory on offer that equips the RoG Phone with a secondary 1080p touchscreen and 6,000mAh battery. Accessories aside, the RoG Phone also comes with squeezable sides, which when gripped switch the handset form its normal smartphone mode into a gaming mode whereby performance is optimised. Here in Blighty, the RoG Phone will retail for £799 when pre-orders kick-off on 16 November, although Asus is offering a "limited run" of handsets with £100 off.

A gaming smartphone design takes aim at an Apple, Samsung weak spot

As it stated in Both the new Razer Phone 2 and its predecessor boast the best screen refresh rate of any phone, at 120Hz. The Razer Phone's main competition in trying to grow a gamer phone market is the Asus ROG Phone, which became available for pre-order on Oct.18. It is the first phone released by the Taiwanese company's Republic of Gamers (ROG) gaming hardware brand. Another new feature is the ultrasonic "AirTriggers" — extra programmable touch points on the edges of the phone screen that serve the same function as game-controller buttons when held horizontally. "The ability to control their own gaming experience is one of the most appealing things about the ROG phone."

Xiaomi's new gaming smartphone comes with a Joy-Con

Another familiar feature here is the "Shark" mode toggle switch on the left: Flip it on and you'll be greeted by a UI plus various system settings optimized for gaming. And of course, when you're done with such hardcore gaming, simply slide the controller out, and you can keep the case on if you wish to. Sadly, the Black Shark Helo is only available in China for now. It starts from 3,199 yuan or about $460 (6GB RAM, 128GB storage) which is still rather competitively priced given the features.
