LG Patent Hints at Smartphone Camera with 16 Lenses

as mentioned in ShareLG may be working on a smartphone camera with 16 lenses, according to a newly filed patent that was spotted by LetsGoDigital. Samsung, however, has already upped the ante with the 2018 Galaxy A9, which has four camera lenses that are stacked vertically at the back. The patent filed by LG suggests that the company may already be working on, or at least thinking about, a smartphone camera with 16 lenses, which trumps all the aforementioned devices. LG is also looking to place a mirror at the bottom of the 16 lenses, which will allow users to take selfies. Nevertheless, LG has a smartphone camera with 16 lenses on its drawing board.

As the smartphone camera wars escalate, expect to see the leading smartphone OEMs go all out to advance their respective camera systems to provide users with a lot of interesting choices.

In a recently filed patent discovered by LetsGoDigital, LG appears to be looking to drastically step things up in the future with a 16-lens smartphone camera setup capable of capturing what the patent calls "moving images". In US patent number 10,135,963, LG reveals not only the 16-lens camera setup, but outlines an array of potential capabilities. The patent also outlines being able to piece together data from multiple images and stitching images together to display them from different perspectives.
