Fresh Apple foldable smartphone patents show it is working hard on the idea too

according to A fresh patent granted to Apple shows that the Cupertino giant is hard at work on its own foldable smartphone. Rumors for the devices point to a launch of a 5G-capable iPhone in 2020 and a folding iPhone (iPhold?) In fact, CNET has uncovered a freshly granted patent for a folding iPhone that could take many different incarnations, depending on which solution Apple ultimately settles on.

The hinges vary accordingly, while there are also images of a folding smartphone that has three folds, making it more like an iPad in size.

Let's hope then, that the rise of folding Android smartphones will lead to a resurgence of interest from Android app developers in creating software that is optimized for a larger interface.

San Francisco: Celebrating the first decade of its Galaxy 'S series Samsung has unveiled the first-of-its-kind foldable smartphone -- Galaxy Fold -- for $2,000 as a smartphone and a tablet folded into one device.
The smartphone, which will be available on April 26, comes with the world's first 7.3-inch Infinity Flex Display, which folds into a compact device with a cover display that is capable of opening up to three active apps simultaneously on the main display.

The internal screen does not merely bend. It folds smoothly and naturally, like a book. "To achieve this, we engineered a sophisticated hinge with multiple interlocking gears -- a system which is housed in a hidden enclosure for an elegant look, " the company wrote in a blog post on Thursday. As Galaxy Fold opens and closes,

apps will automatically show up where you left off. For PC-like powerful performance, running Android 9.0 Pie, Galaxy Fold comes equipped with a high-powered, next-generation application processor (AP) chipset and 12GB of RAM. With the dual battery, the device is capable of charging itself and a second device simultaneously via Wireless PowerShare, while connected to a regular charger. The smartphone features six lenses - three in the back, two on the inside, and one on the cover.

LG won't release a foldable smartphone anytime soon

referring to "We have reviewed releasing the foldable smartphone when launching 5G smartphone but decided not to produce it," said Kwon. "LG's main issue in the smartphone business is to regain its market position.

Considering this situation, it is too early for LG to launch a foldable smartphone." It was widely expected that LG would launch the device at CES last month, though all we got, in the end, was its rollable TV. Its future, and the fate of LG's mobile unit, now likely hinges on the success of LG's upcoming batch of handsets.
