According to a report with The Telegraph, a team from the university reached the conclusion after studying the behaviour of fifty individuals. In the end, they disclosed which 32 % of the notifications worsened the mood of the receiver. These notifications triggered negative emotions making the consumer hostile, upset, nervous, afraid or ashamed. It was too disclosed which while work-related notifications coming in big volumes led to the worsening of mood, bulk messages from friends like those in groups got best the user's mood.

Notifications relating to non-human activity – such as general smartphone updates and wifi availability – had the worst impact on smartphone users' mood, the investigators found.
