But of course, the ZenFone Zoom only offers up to 3x optical zoom, so Oppo's upcoming smartphone will definitely be an impressive beast in terms of the camera. The smartphone is going to be unveiled next week at the Mobile World Congress 2017 in Barcelona, Spain. If Oppo has managed to integrate 5x zoom in a somewhat thin and light body, it will definitely stir up the smartphone market this year.

Chinese smartphone maker Oppo will unveil a new smartphone with 5x zooming ability at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain, later this month. According to a recent report from market analytics firm Counterpoint Research, "Oppo, Huawei, Vivo, Meizu and Gionee captured a combined 58 per cent of the total Chinese smartphone market in 2016." The company has teased the smartphone with the tagline 'Go 5x further' on its Facebook page. "We chose MWC to unveil the 5x technology with the belief that we can inspire the industry to aim higher, and continue to create pioneering products that give amazing experiences to consumers," GSMArena.com quoted Sky Li, Vice President, Oppo and Managing Director, International Mobile Business & President, Oppo India, as saying.

Oppo teases a smartphone with 5x zoom in its MWC 2017 invite

Oppo today sent an MWC invite to all the major media firms which had a graphical "5X" in the middle with a line saying, "So close you can feel it." Along the graphical 5X symbol were the words, "Go 5x Further". Sky Li also told the media that Oppo looks to release the 5x Optical Zoom technology to raise the standards of current smartphone camera technology and lead the companies through a gateway of new possibilities. A mobile camera with 5x optical zoom could very easily beat the likes of Nokia and Samsung in terms of pixel resolution and clarity of images. Sky Li, VP of Oppo and President of Oppo India, told the press that the optical zoom is an achievement which took an entire year of intense R&D.
