ZTE has officially canceled its Kickstarter crowd sourced fund raising campaign for the launch of its Project CSX phone, also known by its code name Hawkeye. In their update today announcing the Kickstarter campaign cancellation, ZTE said this was not going to be the end for Project CSX. While this fund-raising campaign is over, ZTE says it will keep updating its Kickstarter Project CSX page to offer more information on their plans to revamp the phone. ZTE started Project CSX as a way to get its fans to help them design a unique device. Since the campaign ended before the planned due date, anyone who did pledge money for Project CSX will not be charged, as per Kickstarter's own rules.

Yee told Engadget that the decision to use midrange specs was to make the phone more accessible to a wider audience. The concept phone, dubbed Hawkeye, is supposed to support eye-detection and have an adhesive frame to allow for hands-free use. Now that he's gotten better feedback on what consumers want, though, Yee says Hawkeye will more likely come with flagship specs. Back at CES 2017 when we first saw prototypes of Hawkeye, the rest of its specs were mostly undecided. Given this hiccup, it's not clear if ZTE will meet its initial goal of launching Hawkeye this year.
It's cancelling the Kickstarter campaign and going back to the drawing board. ZTE's attempt to bring this phone to life as the Hawkeye have hit a snag. After revealing the Hawkeye in January, ZTE heard from consumers that the specs didn't meet expectations. ZTE says it wants to implement the ideas people presented in the future, but with the better specs everyone expected. Well, it probably wasn't going to hit the $500,000 goal anyway.
