The R17, which features a 6.4-inch AMOLED display and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 CPU, is priced at NT$15,990 (US$522) with the availability starting November 6. The R17 Pro, which also comes with a 6.4-inch AMOLED display but is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor, will be available at NT$19,990 on November 16. With the new models targeting the mid-range segment, Oppo is expected to slice a larger share in the local market in the fourth quarter, according to market sources. Oppo took the fourth position in Taiwan's market in terms of unit shipments in September with a 9.5% share.
iPhone shipments steady amid contracting global smartphone market in recession
The global smartphone market is "effectively in a recession," Strategy Analytics claims, with the firm's estimates suggesting Apple is holding its own in a declining marketplace despite showing minimal growth in its latest results. The figure is a continuation of the market's ongoing slump, with this quarter being the fourth consecutive period of decline. "Samsung tops the list with 72.3 million units shipped, a year-on-year decrease of 13.3 percent, but still allowing it to hold a 20.1 percent market share. "Trailing behind Apple on the list is Xiaomi with 33 million units, up 19.1 percent on last year and increasing its market share to 9.2 percent, and Oppo's 31.2 million units, down 0.6 percent but increasing the market share to 8.7 percent.
